T-norm-based fuzzy logics and logics for reasoning under vagueness

چکیده
We contrast the concept underlying t-norm-based propositional fuzzy logics with the problem to whose solution fuzzy logics are frequently suggested as helpful – namely, to find a model of reasoning with vague information. We argue that fuzzy logics are useful as long as truth values can be identified with the meaning of the considered propositions. This, however, is rarely the case in practice; hence we see the need to broaden the concept underlying this important class of logics and try fresh approaches. In particular, we should flexibilise the formalism to allow that propositions do not arise in the same context, but are just known to be related in some

On Qualified Cardinality Restrictions in Fuzzy Description Logics under Łukasiewicz semantics
Fuzzy Description Logics have been proposed as a family of languages to describe vague or imprecise structured knowledge. This work deals with one of the less studied constructors, qualified cardinality restrictions, showing some counter-intuitive behaviours under Łukasiewicz semantics, and proposing a new semantics and the corresponding reasoning algorithm.
متن کاملFuzzy description logics under Gödel semantics
Classical ontologies are not suitable to represent vague pieces of information, which has lead to the birth of Fuzzy Description Logics as an appropriate formalism to represent this type of knowledge. Different families of fuzzy operators lead to Fuzzy Description Logics with different properties. This paper studies Fuzzy Description Logics under a semantics given by the Gödel family of fuzzy o...
متن کاملAnalyzing fuzzy and contextual approaches to vagueness by semantic games
How can natural language be ‘understood’ by computers? Or, more specifically, how can the semantics of a natural language statement be modeled by means of logic in order to facilitate formal reasoning? This perennial problem has many, partly intertwined facets; one of them being the pervasiveness of vagueness in all natural languages. Originally discarded by Frege as a ‘defect’ of ordinary lang...
متن کاملHow Fuzzy Is My Fuzzy Description Logic?
Fuzzy Description Logics (DLs) with t-norm semantics have been studied as a means for representing and reasoning with vague knowledge. Recent work has shown that even fairly inexpressive fuzzy DLs become undecidable for a wide variety of t-norms. We complement those results by providing a class of t-norms and an expressive fuzzy DL for which ontology consistency is linearly reducible to crisp r...
متن کاملFuzzy description logics with general t-norms and datatypes
Fuzzy description logics (DLs) are a family of logics which allow the representation of (and the reasoning within) structured knowledge affected by vagueness. Although a relatively important amount of work has been carried out in the last years, current fuzzy DLs still present several limitations. In this work we face two problems: the common restriction to Zadeh and Łukasiewicz fuzzy logics an...
